Dyed Fiber

I dyed more of the CVM fleece I bought last June. I’m happy with how brilliant the colors came out considering that the wool is already a dark charcoal color.

  2. have you found that when you dye the fiber before carding, it doesn’t get as dark as if you dyed rolags? That seems to be my recent experience

  3. Not really.. the purple is actually much darker as it’s being spun than it looks just sitting there. I think it depends on how it’s dyed. Like dyeing roving or top, if you don’t use enough dye, it can’t penetrate all the way through, so you’ll end up with lighter fiber in the “middle” This stuff is fairly well saturated. I let it simmer for about an hour for each color.

This wool started off fairly dark though..
