I’ve been slacking…

..on the updating, at least ;)

I finished the soaker I’ve been working on from the “evil merino” yarn. It came out ok, a little bigger than planned, but it will definately be usable, but I can’t get a decent picture of it inside, and I keep forgetting to take it outside.. so hopefully I’ll remember to do that soon.

I started on a pair of mittens for DD – not sure why, as it’s not really that cold and I don’t think she’d wear them anyways, but they’re cute, darnit! :) I linked to the pattern in my sidebar – it’s free. I’m knitting them from some of my “stash” yarn.. the stuff I am trying to find things to do with.

I got some merino/tussah from Spinning Bunny last week and I’ve been trying to resist it until my Rose arrives, but I finally gave in last night. Between what little time I’ve had to spin over the weekend, I’ve got almost 2oz of it spun on my hitchhiker, destined to be a fingering weight 2-ply, and I hope to finish that bobbin and make a good start on the other half of the fiber on a second bobbin tomorrow, with plans to finish that up Tuesday – when I’m *hoping* my Rose will be here so I can ply it on that – I can’t ply all 4oz on one bobbin on the HH, so it better be here soon! It feels like I’ve been waiting forever (it’s been nearly 3 weeks now!), but it supposedly shipped last Tuesday/Wednesday (depending on how you interperet the international date line) so it should be here sometime this week.

I’m not sure I’m in love with the color of the Merino/Tussah though, as I was expecting more vibrant colors of greens and pink, but since it wasn’t, it’s coming out somewhat of a dreary khaki color. I might overdye it when it’s done.. but I’ll wait to see how it looks as yarn before deciding for sure.

  2. I’m acutally curious to see the soaker… even though you called it the “evil merino” it did look really nice! I loved the colors on it. They looked so vibrant!

I find it amusing you just got some Merino/Tussah from SB. I just got an order of the same last week! That, and some targhee. Not tons of each… really just to try them. I had heard such good things about her fibers, that I just wanted to get a little before the prices went up. So, which colorway did you get? Is it “roses for you”? If it is, I’ve actually seen some spun up versions of it on the internet, and it did turn out wonderfully, so keep up hope! I kept thinking about getting that, but ended up deciding to get Chocolate cover cherries instead. That, and Blueberry patch for the Targhee.

  3. The merino/tussah was was rose garden I think? Not sure.. I’d have to look at the tag. I also got some merino/kid mohair blend, in clematis vine. I do like that one :D I only bought 4oz of each.. just wanted something different to play with. I’m drownling in BFL, Targhee, Corriedale (I think I have about 6lbs stashed away waiting to be dyed…) and my fleeces.. but it’s nice sometimes to not have to plan something out ;)

I’m really liking how the merino/tussah spins, it drafts like a dream, the colors just aren’t what I was expecting – that doesn’t make it bad exactly, I was just hoping for soemething a little different.

I should have saved the rest of the “evil merino” and sent it to you – then you’d know why I called it evil! LOL!

I’m also waiting on some Silk Hankies.. they were supposedly shipped two weeks ago, and if they don’t show up with the mail tomorrow I am gonna start questioning the seller about where the heck they are. They’re coming from Canada, but still.. most packages from Canada only take a week, not two or more (and it’s been more than two weeks since I ordered)
