It’s here!!
posted Thursday, February 22nd, 2007 by SarahMy Rose finally arrived!! I haven’t had much chance to play with it much yet, but I did get it put together, and oh my, it’s so QUIET!! Really the only thing you can hear when spinning is the sound of the bobbin against the scotch tension brake.
It’s going to take a little while to get used to it I think, as the spring clip in the flyer definately seems to have a bit of a learning curve (or rather, I seem to have a problem with forgetting to MOVE the thing, and estimating where to move it!) but other than that, it’s wonderful! Treadling is so smooth compared to my Ashford.. it’s amazing!

Yay! I’m so happy for you
. I really hope you like yours as much as I like mine! Oh, and as for the flyer clip. You will eventually get used to it, but sometimes you’ll just get in a groove and completely forget! But I’ve never had a problem yet w/ it getting tangled because of it. The “worst case” is that it holds a bit less. But those bobbins are so big, I usually don’t fill them anyways…. Now you know why I couldn’t go with the Ashford or the Louet after I tried it
BTW, can I also say, you are amazingly fast at spinning! I can’t believe how quickly you finished that Merino/Tussah. I know it was only 4 oz, but wow! I’m probably doing about the same WPI for my targhee and I’m still working on it after what seems like weeks of spinning! Granted, it’s 11 oz, but I still probably only about 1/2 way through it. You’ll have to tell me your secret… or is it just a matter of time and practice?

Yeah, I’m so glad it’s here!!.. I’m not sure I like the delta orifice.. mine has a bit of “wobble” at the point, and Majacraft says that’s normal, but it’s kind of annoying.. the fine flyer is dead on though. I may get daring and try to bend the wire tomorrow to make that point hit more in the center.. praying I don’t break the flyer in the process.
I’m almost AFRAID of how big the jumbo flyer/bobbin is in comparison.. these bobbins are GIGANTIC!! They are seriously the size of the ashford jumbo bobbins.. I’m in awe
The Merino/Tussah, it was 4 days of spinning.. I started it Saturday, finished the first half Sunday, and then started the second bobbin Monday and finished it Tuesday. There was probably 2-3 hours of spinning each day, though not all at once (I tend to spin for half an hour, go do something else, and return, etc), so it really did take quite some time to finish. It was all spun from the fold, long-draw (my preference when spinning very fine) which drafts really quickly. Plying took forever though… well over 2 hours treadling as fast as I could, probably closer to 3. I wasn’t watching the clock all that closely but I had to take several long breaks, and that’s counting only my active time at the wheel. I can spin and ply 4oz of Worsted to DK weight in an evening’s worth of TV.. for comparison, so it felt like it took forever
But I do think with time and practice you get much faster – if I wasn’t limited so severely by the wheel (ratio-wise) I’m sure I could have finished it in half the time.

YAY! It came! Sure is a beauty. Now git up here so I can try it. LOL
My 4-year-old daughter just came and looked at the picture and said, “Look! IT’s a spinning wheel! You got to put oil on it. It will make it loose.” Ah, they learn so young.

Hehe…that’s really cute, but it doesn’t *need* oil – Majacrafts are just spiffy that way
The hitchhiker though.. yeesh!
