My first handspun sweater!

posted Wednesday, September 12th, 2007

I finished this finally, after being sidetracked by knitting for SIL’s babyshower last week. It’s my first sweater knit from my own handspun, and I have a lot leftover too :)

I also made another needle case, this time making a few changes.. mainly making it shorter. I’m happier with this one than the first one (I think it’s more functional), but there are still a few changes I think I will make for the next one..

The next one will have multiple colors for the interior… and it will be yet again a different size ;)

I also put a lining into my little felted bag.. and I put a typical assortment of stuff in it so you can see how pathetically cute the thing really is [LOL]

felted bag I knit this little gem of a bag last night.. I had a ball of Galway I didn’t know what to do with, and a mini felted tote in my Ravelry queue, so it seemed like the perfect match :)

I still need to put a lining in it, but it’s still wickedly cute and functional as is… really I just want a couple of pockets inside to protect my phone, ipod, and sunglasses from my keys.

Then after shopping last night on Etsy for needle cases for my giant snarl of a circular needle collection (the previously lived in several plastic bags after the KnitPicks options case and I failed to get along), I fell in love with this one and decided to make my own (I just don’t have the money to spend right now – but after making mine I can say that one is worth every penny!).

I’m pretty happy with the results, but there are a few things I will change with the next one.

Lots of little bitties!

After DH informed me just a week ago that his SIL has a baby shower, TOMORROW, I’ve been busy knitting all this past week.. first up was EZ’s baby sweater on two needles, which I knit up in a lovely BRIGHT PINK yarn… and of course couldn’t resist trying it on my little boy…

EZ Baby Sweater on Odin

Then I knit this hat for my son (I got distracted, thanks to Ravelry*), and realized it went so nicely with the pink, I made one (slightly smaller and more newborn sized) to go with the sweater. The bigger one (left, obviously) was slightly modified with a button to fold back the front “point” since it wants to hang in his face otherwise.

Baby shower stuff

Then of course I needed some booties to go with it :)

I’m quite happy with how everything goes together… I just hope SIL likes it! I also got her a light pink thermal onesie and a pair of chocolate brown pants to go with it, but I didn’t get pictures of those before I boxed everything up.

My sister informed me that she wants a pair of those booties too. I may have to see about figuring that out.. hehe :)

* Oh yeah, I got into Ravelry last week. I meant to post about it, when I did, but I uh, forgot, since I was too busy, you know, um, with Ravelry! Ooops :)

Working on a few things at the moment…

Larger Than Life -2 First, off, I’ve got half of my squares done for the Larger than Life bag.. however I’ve got to admit that I’m not exactly sure about making the bag at this point… I might just make a bunch more squares and make a baby blanket for my SIL. Her baby shower is on Sunday and I have *no* idea what we’re doing for her. I was thinking of making a smaller version of the Elizabeth Zimmerman sweater I’m currently making for my daughter, but that may be more ambitious than I really have time for right now… since whatever I do I have 5 days to do it, and I don’t (yet) have yarn for a sweater for a tiny baby girl or a ton of time to knit either.

Which brings me to the chocolate correidale that I had sort of earmarked for longies for the wee one.. it’s now most of that EZ sweater (I just have to finish the second arm now). I will have quite a lot of yarn leftover, since in addition to that first skein I ended up spinning two more (the three skeins are almost a pound, total), so I *could* do something for my little man too, but I just bought some Zen String for him (with the matching trim) so he definately won’t be missing out on any mommy-knit woolies ;)

I also joined Zen String’s Fiber Club as a late birthday present to myself. I’m excited – all of the fiber I’ve gotten from Angelina so far has been incredible, and I’m sure it will continue!

playdough Oh yeah, and I made playdough for the kids. After trying numerous recipes, this one worked the best..
2c flour
1c salt
4t cream of tartar
2T oil
1c water
Food coloring

Mix together until smooth (no lumps), heat on stove (on low) until “doughy”.

It’s insanely easy, and super cheap, and the results are more like the real stuff than any other I’ve made. Just don’t cook it too long, or it gets “weird” :)
