Yarn Score!

posted Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

I happened to spot an ad on Craiglist last night from a few days ago.. “box of yarn, $5” – and this is what it was! It’s almost all 2/24 acrylic – just what I can actually use! The orange is 2/12 and the purple is 1/32(?) and I think the big green cone is 2/21, but all usable as scrap! It was still available so I drove (70 miles) to pick it up this evening. I stopped at Sonic too for some slushes, so my $5 yarn ended up being closer to $20, but that’s fine, it’s still a good deal!

Yarn Score!

Well worth the trip, I’d say.

I had a relatively productive sock day today too… I made three socks.

(see that green yarn? that’s scrap.. hence what the box of yarn for $5 is handy for)
Socks!

Why three, you ask? Well, because I didn’t like the first one (a little snug, a little short) and I just didn’t frog it before making a pair. I did something stupid though, and after completing the *heel* on the second sock, put on waste yarn and cranked it off the machine. Yeah. Ooops. It’s okay though, becuase I got familiar real quick with how to re-hang my knitting, and I just kept working on the foot. Aside from some yarn tails on the inside, you’d never know I did that.

It looks much scarier than it was, really :)

And just because, a close-up of sock #1 and it’s beautiful heel!

I think those are for my mom. I haven’t decided yet.

Itty bitty hats!

I’ve been on a roll with these, but they’re SO cute and don’t take hardly any yarn at all… the handspun ones will be stocked as part of the “Help bring Zen String back” stocking planned for July 29th at TLC. They represent only a *tiny* portion of the generosity displayed by everyone – I have quite a few other things planned myself, and the number of people wanting to get involved and donate has been incredible!

I also made some more KK Sippy Kozies to stock in my HC store… I’ll be working on 18oz and 27oz versions soon :) I really like how the campfire one came out.. such perfect spiraling stripes!

More fun things today!

I got a few cones of yarn to play with… hopefully it will work out better for me than the cheap acrylic I’ve been using has been (it tends to break when I *really* don’t need it to!).

Yarn!

I also got some large hook needles to play with.. I hope these will make knitting with handspun a bit easier :)

Big hook needles!

And finally, some cute blue size tags! I can’t wait to make something that I’ll need to use these on :)

So exciting.. I bought some ‘destash’ Zen String via Ravelry.. in one of my favorite colorway’s ever from Angelina, as well as a derivative of it, and then the colorway from the sock yarn club from the month before I joined up :)

It was awesome to get those in the mail so quickly, and all at the same time! Yay! :D

I cranked out another pair of socks today :)

My friend Lamar commented that she hadn’t yet seen any of her sock yarn knitted up, so I told her I’d do something about that… and made these this morning.

I am totally thrilled with them, and I think I am deeming them my first official successful CSM socks – they fit great (they look a little slouchy in the photos, but I hadn’t yet washed them), and there’s no major issues with them (aka nothing horrible happened while knitting). I think I’m getting better – I’m certainly getting faster. I’d say they took me about an hour and a half, with interruptions.
